The purpose of this seminar is to discuss some advanced concepts in wireless
and mobile networks. The material in the seminar, drawn mainly from the research
literature, will be presented in a bottom-up fashion. Challenges and an
introduction to basic and fundamental issues (such as Internet principles,
mobile networking and wireless networks basis) are presented first, to form the foundation for
further discussion. This is followed by discussions of more advanced topics
in mobile wireless networks, including performance and cross-layer optimization,
disruption and delay tolerant networks, survivable and opportunistic networks, applications such as
e-Health and e-Government, and security/privacy issues.
Each participant will be expected to read research papers and contributed to
discussions weekly in the first half of the seminar. Then, everyone is requested to pick a topic as part of the presentation
series (each for ~40 minutes, plus ~20 minutes discussions) and write an essay (12~15 pages) based on the
assigned papers. The objective of the seminar is to help
students build on their networking knowledge and keep them up to date with the
new technologies in the ever changing and dynamic world of wireless networking
and mobile communications.
Schedule for presentations (note: each presentation MUST be kept within 30~40 minutes, followed by 10~20 minutes for questions and discussions):
