Course Description:

The purpose of this seminar is to discuss some advanced concepts in wireless and mobile networks. The material in the seminar, drawn mainly from the research literature, will be presented in a bottom-up fashion. Challenges and an introduction to basic and foundamental issues (e.g., basis of mobile telecommunications and Internet technologies, archictecture separation between location and identifier, advances in pervasive computing and access technologies) are presented first, to form the foundation for further discussion. This is followed by discussions of advanced mobility paradigms, cross-layer design and context-awareness, as well as security and intrusions detection/protection in mobile wireless networks.

Each participant will be expected to read research papers and contributed to discussions weekly in the first half of the seminar. Then, everyone is requested to pick a topic as part of the presentation series (each for ~40 minutes, plus ~20 minutes discussions) and write an essay (12~15 pages) based on the assigned papers. The objective of the seminar is to help students build on their networking knowledge and keep them up to date with the new technologies in the ever changing and dynamic world of wireless networking and mobile communications.
